If you want to be an exceptional success, you’re going to have to do things differently than the rest.
Extraordinary people demonstrate a few similar traits that set them apart from the ordinary- the ones clocking in and out every day without ever really seeming to get ahead. It has nothing to do with timing, luck or inborn talent, but rather a way of thinking and doing things to create a culture of positivity and prosperity.
So dare yourself to go against the grain by trying these six shifts in your life on for size:
They love their work
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”- Pele
Successful people are passionate about their work and proud of their achievements. It’s this passion that drives them towards their goals. They’re confident, persistence comes easily and they appreciate life more overall. Because they enjoy their work, they commit to it without resistance. Are you doing what you love? Does it bring meaning and value to your life? Progress is a grind, so the success you seek has to be something you’re willing to fight for.
They usually aren’t big spenders
Wealthy entrepreneurs usually gain success through hard work, determination, and a high degree of intelligence. They understand that money does not simply fall from the skies and end up in their laps. Therefore, wealthy entrepreneurs know that money must be earned and not spent too frivolously on crazy expenditures. The ultra-successful may even life quite simply compared to others. Not overspending allows the wealthy and successful to enjoy their lives comfortably, while knowing that the safety net is there.
They save and they invest
Along with not overspending, wealthy people know how to properly invest and save the money they earn. By investing in smart ways, these ultra-successful people become wealthier, however they never lose sight of what lies at the heart of their accomplishments: their passion for the job. They can afford to invest well and save money for the future because they stayed true to their talents and took smart risks. This is a crucial element to becoming wealthy and successful.
They keep continuously learning
Success can quickly come to a screeching halt once you decide that you’re finished learning. No matter how much you think you may know, there’s always something that you don’t (trust me), and those who are super successful actually enjoy this constant pursuit. So don’t settle with the knowledge you have. Ever. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go back to school to get new degrees or learn a new trade, but keep consuming information and learning from those around you. This constant stream of knowledge will help you to stay on your toes and evolve in both your personal and professional life.
They’re adaptable
“The wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water molds itself to the pitcher.”- Chinese Proverb
Successful people learn to go with the flow- even if they don’t always like it. They not only follow trends based off of ever-moving conditions, they embrace them. They’re flexible, fluid and they know how to positively react to whatever is put in front of them. By being more adaptable and anticipating change, you’ll also help to diminish any concerns of the future. Changes won’t throw you off, but instead they’ll just become another expected part of life.
They surround themselves with other successful people
You’ve heard it before, “show me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.” It’s true, however, that those whom you spend most of your time with gradually shape your behaviors and your mindset. In fact, a 2014 showed that our friends and colleagues greatly impact the choices we make, both for the better and for the worse (1). For this reason, we should be cautious of who we surround ourselves with. So take some time to analyze your current crew, cut out negativity and dedicate time to those relationships that will have positive effects on your life.
