At Love The Hustle, we believe in making every single second count. Thankfully, there are some ways to get more juice for the squeeze: here are 3 productivity hacks you can’t live without.
86,400. That’s how many seconds are in a day.
In the 8 hour workday, there are only a mere 28,800 seconds.
That’s why finding ways to increase productivity is something that is always at the top of our list. Here are our tips for staying as productive as possible:
Don’t multitask
Multitasking would be a great productivity hack, if it actually worked. It’s a shame, because if multitasking were a real thing we’d all have two computers and blitz through a project with each hand.
Sure, that’s an extreme example, but science has proven that multitasking ruins even the small things. It actually involves switching your attention between the tasks rapidly, and it completely ruins your attention for both.
If you want to see this in action, drive around with your iPhone in hand and see what happens. There’s a reason Cops hand out big tickets for crimes of multitasking-while-driving (ps…don’t actually do this).
Prioritization is your secret sauce
Remember Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs from Psych class? Well, you need a business version ASAP. We call it the Hierarchy of G.M.D. (Getting More Done).
Even the little things can take up huge chunks of time and attention if you let them pile up. Stamping a letter to go out to a client seems easy, until you have to send out 500 right before a deadline.
So whatever the number one thing is that drives your business (clients, pizza, wine, whatever) make that happen first.
You’ll be able to put all your attention into it, then you can sweat the small stuff later.
Get your inner computer whiz going
Writing stuff down definitely boosts productivity. But we’re not in the 18th century anymore – you can use tech to really boost your productivity to the next level.
The virtual post it notes are a good start too, but what you really should consider is task management systems.
These systems can let you set a deadline for anything, track your progress, divide up your tasks into subtasks, and so much more.
So take the time to look into tech, drop your Phone and type routine, and start prioritizing.
