3 Powerful Ways to Eliminate Self-Doubt

3 Powerful Ways to Eliminate Self-Doubt

Whether you’re the President of the United States or someone at her first day of work, self-doubt can sneak up on anyone. When it does, it can make you doubt those fantastic abilities that got you so far already, and throw a wrench in your future success. Even though self-doubt happens to the best of us, the truly successful have found ways to overcome that nagging feeling and continue right on the path to achieve more. Thankfully, many of them have shared how they overcame that self-doubt, and how you can too. Here are some ways to eliminate self-doubt for good: Focus on what you can control Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook and author of the inspirational book Lean In, gave a great commencement speech at Barnard College about how she was able to eliminate self-doubt. The way she overcame self doubt in the male-dominated tech world is simple, yet powerful: “Let the barriers you face–and there will be barriers–be external, not internal. Fortune does favor the bold, and I promise that you will never know what you’re capable of unless you try.” She wisely suggested focusing on what you can control (like your thoughts), and not doubting the external things that are out of your grasp. By doing this, you can avoid getting paralyzed by doubt over things you cannot change. Own your accomplishments TED Speaker, punk musician and renowned author Amanda Palmer wisely said “When you’re an artist, nobody ever tells you or hits you with the magic wand of legitimacy. You have to hit your own head with your own handmade wand.” Artist or not, the cold hard truth is that people often don’t have time...

Drop These 4 Phrases and Become Super Successful

How can you become super successful? Drop these all-too-common phrases like a bad habit and see your success elevate. You’ve probably adopted some phrases and mantras that have boosted your success to the next level (if you haven’t, you should start here!). Unfortunately, the opposite also holds true – there are some words and mindsets that can drag down your success like a lead anchor. So why use them? Drop these all-too-common phrases like a bad habit and see yourself become super successful:   “Everybody said no.” If you’re facing rejection, it’s easy to look at all the “no’s” and say “no” to your own success. But, you need to always remember that “no” is just someone’s opinion. Look no further than Steve Jobs, who encountered a really, really, really big “no” when he got fired from Apple (his own company!) when he was 30. Rather than throw in the towel, he went on to found Next, which was acquired by Apple, and then he climbed back on top. Instead of listening to the “no’s” –even the tiny ones – you can do the same, by continuing your journey towards success.   “I’m not good enough.” This phrase is so common and destructive that it’s become a legitimate medical syndrome. Impostor Syndrome is categorized by “a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist even in face of information that indicates that the opposite is true.” Sound familiar? Even if all the signs point to victory, doubt can impose a self-inflicted prison on success. So don’t let Impostor Syndrome creep up – pay attention to your accomplishments, and let any...

Rethink Everything: How a New Perspective Is Key to Your Success

How a new perspective on an old idea is the key to your success. Certain people — especially people under the age of 18 — dread the beginning of fall. It signals the start of school, endlessly raking leaves, the end of warm weather… the list goes on and on. I’m a successful entrepreneur and I always look forward to the new season. You should, too, because whatever your age or your level of education, you can always benefit from a “back-to-school” mindset. A child’s curiosity and thirst for new knowledge often gets lost in the transition to adulthood. This is especially true of adults who have been in the same career for a long time. Stability can turn into sameness, and the reliable can become the predictable. You may get the occasional curveball thrown your way, like some new calendar application or accounting software, but that’s about it. My wealth management firm, LexION Capital, keeps me on my toes, but I don’t wait for the challenges to come and find me. I take concrete steps to learn more, and you should too – this is the key to your success. Here are a couple of ways to do that. Pretend it’s your first day on the job When I worked on Wall Street, I saw the following scenario, over and over again. Hungry young grads, wide-eyed with enthusiasm, would step onto the trade floor. Their minds overflowed with revolutionary new ideas, and their determination to get in there and make a difference was palpable. Then, a month would pass, and these same hungry young go-getters could be overheard saying, “Well… that’s how...

How to Start Looking Forward to Monday in 3 Easy Steps

Here are some ways to avoid the dreaded Sunday blues and start looking forward to Monday morning. Let’s admit it – we’ve all had a case of the Mondays. And no matter how much we love our job, and how much we’re Loving the Hustle, Sunday sometimes feels like anything but a Fun-day. Not to fear, there are some ways to avoid the dreaded Sunday blues and start looking forward to Monday!   Eat a frog Don’t Google “nearby French Restaurants” just yet. We’re referring to people who don’t like frogs, specifically productivity guru Brian Tracy’s famous book Eat That Frog! It’s based off Mark Twain’s idea that if you eat a frog in the morning, it will be the easiest thing you do all day. Twain is right (well, he has the right idea) – you can do this by leaving the headache inducing tasks, or anything you’re not as pumped about, for the times where you’re at your peak. Read that as not 9 a.m. on a Monday. When you know you might be under more stress, or a little overwhelmed, you can make it easier by penciling in the easier stuff for that time. So, consider “eating the frog” on Fridays or Thursdays. Rather than loading Monday up with meetings, you can take on meetings earlier, and instead schedule Monday in with only your most passionate plans. Pretty soon you won’t just be ready to tackle your work week, but you’ll start looking forward to Monday morning. Pay it forward As Obama said “if you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with...
